Job Summary
The senior researcher is expected to take part in the field work coordination, primary data analysis and contribution to the drafting of the research report which aims to assess the challenges of the current situation in Afghanistan and the region and propose the one which suits the Afghan context. In addition, he/she shall be responsible for supervision of junior researchers and the project team activities. In particular, the senior researcher will lead activities of a research team regarding development and successful implementation of the roadmaps for the projects.
Responsibilities
- Keep abreast of security developments in Afghanistan through monitoring the media and other sources, primary research, and information gathered from national and international networks
- Conduct desk research, literature/policy reviews for a research project and identify the relevant actors to be interviewed;
- Analyze information and data, and produce briefing papers and reports to support project goals;
- Develop and maintain research databases;
- Monitor, capture, filter and organize information and data into databases to ensure strategic and valuable information is available for project purpose;
- Prepare research materials and publications;
- Manage junior researchers;
- Ensure accurate and professional research tasks are delivered timely;
- Provide timely information relevant to the projects;
- Contribute to drafting the research report;
- Be able to work under pressure and according to specific and sometimes tight deadlines;
- Manage project teams to develop goals strategies and plans related to specific work areas
- Other ad hoc responsibilities
Qualification And Requirements
- A master’s degree in Political Sciences, International Relations, Security and Defense Studies or other related fields from a reputable institution;
- At least 3-5 years relevant professional experience in research, teaching and management;
- Robust research and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to formulate research plan;
- Ability to collect and analyze useful data and information;
- Knowledge of research tools and methodology;
- Reasonable academic background;
- Experience in working within a team environment;
- Strong familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, implementation and oversight
- A self-starter who can work with limited supervision, proactive and has strong communication skills;
- Strong analytical and writing skills;
- Able to interact effectively with a range of researchers, community members and local government actors, NGO actors and security partners;
- Commitment to capacity building of quantitative and qualitative researchers;
- Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently. Can handle multiple tasks effectively and manage time to meet deadlines;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite;
- Fluent in Persian/Dari and English
