On Wednesday, July 11, 2019, the regional Office of Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) in Herat, launched its Research Paper titled “Religious Radicalism in the Higher Education of Afghanistan; Analysis of the political System of Islam Course and its Impact of the Students” by Ramin Kamangar. The program was participated a number of government officials, member of academia, member of clergy, civil society members and media representatives.
At first, Ramin Kamangar presented a summary of findings of the paper, followed by a critique by Dr. Sayed Mahdi Afzali, University Lecturer.
At this program, Dr. Seyyed Mahdi Afzali professor critiqued the paper. He also discussed how the university lectures on political Islamic systems are void of any scientific and research-based literature. He also said the literature in the curriculum of universities are biased.
He also said that believing to Perfection and pluralism are Compatible and once these two conflict with each other that do not allow to develop a different, methodical and normative understanding.
Subsequently, Dr. Jamalludin Heravi, university lecturer, criticized the contents of this research, focusing on the book of the political Islamic system. He also said, “Islamic caliphate is an ideal government and Muslims aspire to reestablish it”. “However, in the current days, it is not possible to reestablish such a system”.
The program ended with a Q&A discussion with the audience.
