Twitter Spaces Discussion on the "Language Conflict in Afghanistan"

Posted on: 20-02-2022

Cultural and linguistic fragility and disunity in Afghanistan has been a major problem in the last century that has not been discussed before. Given the importance of this issue and its implications for socio-political behavior and to mark ‘Mother Language Day’, on February 20, 2022, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies held a Twitter Spaces discussion on the "Language Conflict in Afghanistan". Dr. Ghafoor Liwal, a member of the Afghan Academy of Sciences, Mahmoud Marhoun, university lecturer, and Mujib Mehrdad, poet and journalist, discussed the relationship between language and identity and its impact on the recent conflicts in Afghanistan. The program ended with a Q&A and discussion between the speakers and the audience on the causes of the conflict and the points of difference and linguistic commonality in Afghanistan.
