Roundtable Discussion on Prospect of Understanding between India and Pakistan in Afghanistan

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) held an online roundtable discussion on “Prospect of Understanding between India and Pakistan in Afghanistan”. The event was accompanied by Ambassador Amar Sinha, Former Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan; Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa, Research Associate, SOAS, London; Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, Former Pakistani Ambassador to the UN; and Jyoti Malhotra, Senior Consulting Editor, The Print, India. The event was moderated by Dr. Magdalena Kirchner, Country Director Afghanistan of the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

The speakers discussed the implications of the current withdrawal momentum for India and Pakistan and for their relation with Afghanistan. They also talked about the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan and considered it of the most important factors in Afghanistan’s strategic environment. They also highlighted the impediments for understanding between Pakistan and India in Afghanistan and pointed to Afghanistan or other actors to facilitate such a process of understanding.
