Nowruz Radio and Website Officially Launched

On Thursday, September 3, 2020, Nowruz radio and website officially launched during a ceremony; Herat Governor, Head of Information and Culture, a number of cultural figures and local media in Herat attended the event.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Ahmad Saeed Haqiqi, managing director of “Radio Nowruz”, while welcoming the guests, spoke about the programs and broadcasting policy of Radio Nowruz. Explaining why media has been named as “Nowruz”, he said that the word is rooted in our ancient civilization and the history of our great nation. He added that Nowruz Radio and Website will serve as an analytical-debate-centered media platform that will work to promote the culture, art and literature of this geography. In his speech, he referred to the policy of Nowruz Radio and promised innovative programs to the residents of Herat and the audience of this radio.

Seyed Abdul Wahid Qatali, the Governor of Herat Province initially congratulated Radio Nowruz on its launch, adding that a sustainable media work in Afghanistan is difficult, because it requires perseverance, financial resources and facilities; and this in itself makes the media space difficult for operators to continue working in, he said. He also announced the support of the Herat local government and said that he would answer citizens' questions through Nowruz Radio program.

It`s worth mentioning that special Nowruz Radio programs on various themes, including literature, culture, art, poetry, music, politics and other important issues was broadcast from 10:00 AM until 04:00 PM. Included in these special programs were interviews with the country`s prominent figures about the launch of Nowruz Radio.

It should be noted that Nowruz Radio, available on frequency 101.1, is based in Herat and the Nowruz Website is run from Kabul.

The media platform is owned by the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS); however, the radio and website publications and policies are overseen by an Independent Writers Council and its editorial board.
