Celebrating the World Peace Day; 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi; Commemorating of Afghanistan’s Cultural Pluralism

On the eve of World Peace Day, Monday, September 16, 2019, Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies in Herat held an event to honor World Peace Day, commemorate 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Commemorating Afghanistan’s Cultural Pluralism.
The event was participated by government officials, foreign diplomats, academia, members of international organizations, members of civil society and Media.
H.E Mr. Gajraj Bhati, Consul General of India in Herat, spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's role in creating a peaceful and non-violent political culture.
Mr. Bhati emphasized on the role of Afghan-Indian cultural relations as two countries that are rooted in cultural, political and social relations. He emphasized on the role of the governments and nations of both countries in strengthening these important relations.
The second speaker of the ceremony, Dr. Mohammad Davood Hashemy, Herat Deputy Governor, extended the Herat Governor’s message on occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150 birthday and said: "todays Mahatma Gandhi is a role model for every person in the world who seeks peace. 
The program also feature screening of the documentary ‘Silent Minority, the Last Sikhs of Afghanistan’.
As the last speaker, Mr. Ali Ahmad Kaveh, lecturer at Herat University, spoke about Mahatma Gandhi’s Personality. He also noted some issues about Cultural Pluralism in Afghanistan. He says that Afghan cultural pluralism was influenced by religious pluralism. He also said that research on Afghan cultural pluralism shows that religious minorities have been suppressed for their beliefs.
