Round-table on “US-Afghanistan Relations under President Trump”

On 19th January 2017, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) organized a roundtable under the title of “US-Afghanistan Relations under President Trump”. The panel was moderated by Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Haidari, Director-General of Policy & Strategy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan / AISS Research Fellow. The speakers of the panel were Mr. Michael Albin, Scholar-Librarian, US Congress Library and Mr. Hamid Arsalan, Program Officer, National Endowment for Democracy, Washington DC. The panel discussed how a US administration led by Donald Trump, the US president-elect, will effect Afghanistan. The speakers highlighted the strategic importance of Afghanistan and expressed that the new US administration will hopefully maintain close relations with the Afghan National Unity Government (NUG). A number of government officials, academia, civil society activists and journalists participated in this event. The event followed by question and answer session at the end.
